EMMARR STUD
Is a small stud aiming to breed true type Welsh Mountain Ponies.
We are a small stud situated in the beautiful Talley Valley being just 50 mins drive from the famous RWAS show ground. I have had a passion for horses all my life and started life in a riding school where l learnt the basics of riding. I used to have hourly free horse rides in return for cleaning tack and mucking out stables. I went on to be a head lad in a local riding school and then later went into racing working for Major Peter Cazalet who was the Queen Mother’s horse trainer.. It was during my time here that l learnt how to do things properly from having clean stables and tidy yard to general management of the horse. However we are always open to learning more and l have to say l have never stopped learning, the knowledge some long term Welsh breeders share is incredible, and l am grateful for all the help everyone has given us. Special thanks also go to all concerned with the High Horse Showing Society who have been great educators, friendly and most of all will always share their knowledge.
At the age of 16yrs l bought my first Point -To- Pointer after saving my wages for a whole year..! . Point to Pointing was my life throughout my teenage ,20’s 30’s years. It wasn’t until year 2000 l decided to call it a day after 30+ glorious years. It was at this time in 2000 we moved to beautiful Wales from the South Coast of England. We bought our first Welsh Mountain Pony from Llanybydder sales as a companion pony. It was from this point that both Michael and l recognised and fell in love with these beautiful mischievious, hardy breed. On buying our first few Welshies we also bought a coloured cob type called Brenyn -Yr-Maes however it was certainly trial and error, having bought a Doylan, Togram, Penboeth and a Friars but we soon acknowledged that we were drawn more to the hill pony type . A five year period elapsed, we learnt as much as we could, we went and watched at several shows, watching out for stock we liked for future reference. We also needed to have some idea of what we were meant to be doing before we decided to start a Welsh Pony Stud. We wanted to invest in what we considered to be good , well bred quality stock. It was so noticable the stock we liked and the stud progressed from there. Since then it has always been our aim to breed ponies of true Welsh Mountain type, with good conformation, temperament, movement and with that certain Welsh attitude. I think now we are totally addicted to this wonderful breed and can never see life without a Welsh Mountain Pony.

A Place of Dreams
By Teresa Gee who
(Sadly passed away 1/1/17)
Wading through a sea of gold, striding out onto green
One of the most wondrous sights, ever to be seen.
From barn to field come rain or shine, the little gems shine bright
Their massive personalities defy their modest height.
A tiny head will look your way a little ear is pricked
Big bright eyes watching, waiting and fingers will be licked.
A welcome from both man and beast don’t be misunderstood
You’ll not get better anywhere than the great Emmarr Stud.
