"I am so very lucky to be living my dream

and l am thankful everyday for this opportunity"

RBJH

Emmarr Stud is situated in Powys close to the Shropshire / Herefordshire borders. The two   main towns are Llandrindod Wells to the west, once known as the largest and most popular Welsh Spa.  It's waters first became famous in the reign of Charles 11 and at the height of it's popularity in late Victorian times it use to draw 80,000 visitors a year.  The town on a 700 ft plateau overlooking the River Ithon, has wide streets and good 19th century architecture.

Builth Wells, just a few miles away is a market town which has a 18th century bridge with six arches over the river Wye.  In Victorian times, the great era of spas, it's two springs, one saline and the other sulphur, were said to have great healing effects.  The local wells are no longer in use.  The town was destroyed by fire in December 1691, and the rebuilt town has little left of it's early days.  It is also famous for the Royal Welsh Showground, and the Royal Welsh Show which is held every July in the grounds of nearby Llanelwedd Hall.  The town is a excellent centre for exploring a lovely stretch of the Wye valley.  The river flows south-west through the steep sided valley and turns into a cascading rapids at the narrowest point a mile below the village of Aberedw.

Knighton  to the east is a small agricultural town in the valley of the River Teme, and  a centre for easy hill walking in the lovely borderlands.  The Welsh name for Knighton Tref-y-Clawdd, "town of the dyke" refers to the earth bank and ditch built c AD 784 by King Offa, King of Mercia to defend his land against the Welsh.  The dyke is 30ft high near Knighton.  A long distance footpath partly following the line of the dyke was opened in 1971
